Emezi takes us on a journey into the splintered existence of Ada and all the others that make up her ‘personalities’. The book is about Adas journey with these forces within her and questions whether Ada will be. Its a different feel to the books I have read, an irregular and refreshing journey into the psyche of the main character Ada and those who exist within her.Ī. Akawaeki Emezis Freshwater is a lyrical and playful book told from shifting first person accounts that explores the internal life of protagonist Ada as she tries to contend with the many voices in her head coming from non-human, spiritual entities. All I can say that I do not regret picking it up this unconventional novel. I cannot recall where I first came across the book or what drew me in, making me want to read it.
